Man Ray Exhibit at the Phillips

We usually think of Man Ray as a photographer famous for his surrealistic images. He was also an accomplished painter. In this exhibit he photographs models derived from mathematical equations. Then from the photographs he produces oils. Fascinating exhibit.

National Portrait Gallery

Today, I was able to stop by the National Portrait Gallery before a dentist appointment.

I was lucky to have an unexpected "personal" tour since no one else shown up for the 11:45 tour.

If you have never been there before, give it a chance. There is a great courtyard to escape from the cold and feel that you are still "outside".

There you can have lunch, a coffee or just enjoy your favorite book.

But the best part is inside.

Last Saturday I was able to attend the Paph Forum at the National Arboretum. It is an orchid event focused only on 3 orchid genus: Paphipedilum, Phragmepedium and Cypripedium.

The main showing room at the Arboretum has bad fluorescent light and a terrible back panelling. So, it is not the best setting. I only took a handful of pictures.

I guess as most of you, today I have been stuck at home with very little chance of taking pictures. Still, I stepped out to the backyard before it turned too bad.

After braving into the cold, I rewarded myself with a hot cup of coffee. Stay warm!

Scott's Run in winter.

Yesterday I decided to take a hike along Scott's Run Trail. It was just as cold as the previous day, but the wind was not as severe.

This is normally a water fall where Scott's Run empties into the Potomac.

Went to Great Falls yesterday and froze my butt off. Actually it was more my fingers.

The Main Reading Room...inspired by the British Museum Library...opened in 1897. I was awed by the beauty of the architecture and the breadth of its 65,000 volume reference collection.

John Flanagan's magnificent clock topped by a life-size bronze statute of Father Time with his scythe.  He is encircled by a mosaic of zodiac signs and 3-D statues of  women and children representing the seasons.
